BATTERY GUIDE

The most common questions about batteries for walking scooters

How does the battery work in the cold?

Lead acid batteries do not like cold. It is the single most performance degrading parameter. If you store your battery in extreme cold for long periods, the battery's lifespan can be noticeably shortened and, in the worst case, stop working.

How should I charge my lead acid batteries?

If you use the included charger for your walking scooter, there are two simple rules to follow: Charge the batteries max. 14 hours straight to avoid overcharging and maintenance charge your batteries at least once a month to avoid deep discharge.

If you use a Smart charger from us, you don't have to worry about charging times as it ensures that the battery charges optimally, regardless of how long you have it plugged in. About our batteries

Our batteries are AGM type lead batteries. Because it contains no liquid, an AGM battery is maintenance-free, i.e. no liquid needs to be topped up. The cells are also encapsulated, which means that the battery is very safe as it does not emit any gas and can only swell instead of exploding. An AGM battery is perfect for both starting and consumption, but it should not consume more than 60% of the total capacity, after which a new charge must take place. A well-maintained AGM lasts about 400-600 charge cycles before its life is used up and you notice a deterioration in the battery. An AGM battery must never be left discharged, as it will be damaged.

longer stops when it is cold. If you store your battery in extreme cold for longer periods, the cells may deteriorate and your battery may stop working.

How many times can I charge my battery before I need to replace it?

Of course this depends on how you take care of your battery but a guideline is at least 650 absolute charge cycles. An absolute cycle is charging from 0-100%. If you charge 50-100%, this corresponds to 0.5 cycle. You complete a charge cycle when you have
used (discharged) an amount corresponding to 100% of the battery's capacity - but not necessarily all from one charge. For example, you can use 75% of the battery's capacity one day and then fully charge it overnight. If you use 25% the next day, you will have drained a total of 100%, and the two days will add up to one charge cycle.

What does BMS mean?

It means Battery Management System and is a kind of protection system for the battery cells. It ensures that the cells are neither overcharged nor undercharged. When it is 7-10% it can be perceived as if the battery is "shutting down" but this is the BMS kicking in and protecting the battery from undercharging.
